Erectile dysfunction or sexual impotence

Erectile dysfunction. is the repeated inability to achieve or maintain a firm erection over time that allows for satisfactory sexual intercourse.

This, also known as  sexual impotence,  is a common pathology that, if not treated, can seriously affect a couple's relationship.

We can help you recover your sex life and improve your physical and mental performance.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION?

  • Difficulty getting an erection
  • Weak or less rigid erections
  • Spontaneous morning erections occur less frequently
  • Climax is reached in less time or with an incomplete erection
  • The erection is lost due to changing position during sexual intercourse

We consider that there is male sexual dysfunction when all or some of the above symptoms indicated are present. They are all interrelated, and acting on one of them will not solve the problem. We must go to the real cause, which is usually common to all of them.

It is a very common problem

In fact, it has been estimated that erectile dysfunction, or at least some form of impotence, affects almost half of men between 40 and 70 years of age.

Of course, the percentage of men affected by impotence increases proportionally the older the age group. Likewise, men suffering from diabetes, smokers, or with other relevant conditions, are more likely to suffer from sexual dysfunction.

And despite being part of the intimate life of individuals and couples, it unfortunately remains a taboo subject. This social barrier has prevented many men from seeking help for a disorder that can be treated, in most cases, with a relatively simple hormone replacement therapy.

At Low T Center®, we are experts in male sexual health, and we provide a quick and effective solution to the most common cause of sexual dysfunction: hormonal deficiency.

    Male sexual function
    Male

Normal male sexual function usually begins with sexual desire (libido). This is stimulated by the brain, nervous system, blood vessels and hormones, leading to erection of the penis. This is followed by ejaculation and culminates in climax.

Men get an erection when the cavernous bodies relax to allow blood flow, which results in the expansion and firmness of the male sexual organ. When the erection ends, the blood flows out and the organ relaxes.

When this process is impaired or interrupted, erection problems begin.

These problems usually begin to appear gradually. Over time, they become worse and lead to resignation and/or general discouragement in daily life and as a couple.

When impotence is linked to this or other symptoms of low testosterone, testosterone, we can conclude that the hormonal deficiency is the origin of the dysfunction. And therefore, it is treatable..

Interesting facts about sexual dysfunctions in men over 40:

    • Those who suffer from hypogonadism or low testosterone levels 60% 60%
    • Those who suffer from hypogonadism without knowing it 45% 45%
    • Those who suffer from sexual dysfunction or impotence 40% 40%
    • Those who suffer from sexual dysfunction or impotence due to low testosterone levels 80% 80%
    • Success rate of hormone replacement therapy in cases of sexual dysfunction or impotence caused by low testosterone levels 95% 95%

Types of erectile dysfunction or impotence

Let's talk about erectile dysfunction You can be diagnosed with erectile dysfunction when the inability to maintain an erection sufficient for intercourse occurs only at least 25% of the times that it is attempted. In other words, 1 in 4 times.

Esta dysfunction is also known as sexual impotence. Within this dysfunction, we can distinguish 4 types:

    • Psyche impotence: Refers to those cases in which impotence is due to emotional and not physical factors.
    • Impotencia Generandi (male infertility): The man can maintain his erections before and during intercourse, but is not able to procreate.
    • Impotence coeundi: When it is totally impossible to have intercourse.
    • Impotence erigendi: Inability to achieve an erection.

Men may present different sexual pathologies included within the term:

It is estimated that between 30% and 40% of men over forty years of age have some degree of sexual impotence. In a large number of cases, the dysfunction is usually caused by a low testosterone level, and this is where testosterone replacement therapies are very effective and the safest way to regain powerful erections and an active and satisfying sex life.

If the origin of the dysfunction is hormonal (80% of cases between 35 and 65 years of age), acting locally on the male sexual apparatus does not treat the origin, but only the symptom derived from hormonal deficiency. If, on the other hand, the cause is treated, the problem can be solved in a stable manner.

AtLow T Center, we specialise in treating dysfunction in an effective and safe way.

To maintain an erection, the brain, blood vessels and male hormones must work together.

What are the causes of erectile dysfunction?

Knowing the causes of sexual impotence is the first necessary step to discover how to solve it.

    • Any alteration in the parts involved in an erections (such as: stimulus, sexual desire, vascular or neuronal system, etc.) can lead to an alteration of the erection, and therefore cause impotence.
    • Some health problems that can cause sexual impotence (attributable to physical appearance) are: Hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, blood flow problems or metabolic syndrome (closely related to hormonal deficiency) or drug use.

Up to 40% of dysfunction cases are caused by a hormonal deficiency, and they can be classified as either: mild, moderate or severe.

The mechanism considered responsible for erectile dysfunction, in most endocrine causes, is the decrease in testosterone levels in the blood, which is usually accompanied by loss of sexual desire or libido.

Sometimes, despite suffering from sexual dysfunction, a man is able to have an erection spontaneously or outside of sexual intercourse, but when he tries to have sexual activity with a partner, he is unable to get or maintain an erection.

The problem is that, as various epidemiological studies point out, this is an underdiagnosed and undertreated pathology.

Erection problems can be temporary or permanent. An excess of other hormones such as prolactin, cortisol or thyroid hormones and others can also lead to a decrease in male sex hormones. A feedback symptom of sexual dysfunction is loss of libido. male

Dysfunction due to lack of sexual appetite or loss of libido

Lack of libido could be a symptom of underlying, more serious health problems. It is important to keep in mind that your situation is not unusual and should not be embarrassing, as lack of sexual appetite, and low libido affects 20% of men, and erectile dysfunction affects half of men over 40 years old. In many cases, loss of sexual appetite or low libido is the first symptom to appear, and it ends up leading to erection problems due to lack of "spirit", but by going to the origin of the problem, it can be clinically diagnosed and treated appropriately. A very simple way to detect when there is an erectile dysfunction problem is by observing nocturnal erections or when waking up in the morning. If they have disappeared or decreased, there is a real problem of dysfunction due to physical causes in most cases.

Loss of libido or sexual desire is a sexual dysfunction very common amongst men. One of the main causes of decreased libido is TDS (Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome). The T hormone is key in maintaining the sexual function in men, so the most frequent symptoms of TDS are decreased sexual desire and impotence.

It is known that men with less sexual desire have lower testosterone levels.

Sexual dysfunction caused by hormonal deficiency

A lack of libido could be a symptom of underlying health problems of a more serious nature. It is important to bear in mind that your situation is not uncommon and should not be embarrassing, as lack of sexual appetite or low libido affects 20% of men, and erectile dysfunction affects half of men over 40. On many occasions, loss of sexual appetite or libido is the first symptom to appear, and ends up leading to erection problems due to this lack of ‘mood’, but it is by going to the source of the problem that it can be diagnosed clinically and treated appropriately. A very simple way to detect when there is a problem of erectile dysfunction is by observing erections at night or when waking up in the morning, if they have disappeared or decreased, there is a real problem of dysfunction due to physical causes in most cases.

Loss of libido or sexual desire is a very common sexual dysfunction in men. One of the main causes of decreased libido is TDS (Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome). The T hormone is key in maintaining sexual function in men, so the most common symptoms of TDS are decreased sexual desire and impotence.

It is known that men with lower sexual desire have lower testosterone levels.
